Never Too Late to Exercise

It’s a known fact that as we get older, we lose muscle mass faster from inactivity, and we gain it back slower from exercise.  But is there an age at which exercise just doesn’t help? A research study recently published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society adds to a wealth of information showing it’s never too late to exercise.  They started a light-to-moderate intensity exercise program for patients over the age of 90.  After only 18 sessions, the exercise group experienced significantly fewer falls and trended better in walking speed, stair-climbing speed, and other measures.   For some people, it’s better to have a physical therapist design a customized exercise plan and supervise the beginnings of that plan.
